COMMUNITY OUTREACH

The MCMS Community Outreach Committee continues to be an integral part of the
Montgomery County general community.
The Medical Bulletin publishes MCMS related articles under the MCMS section each month. Washington Parent is a free newspaper found in local libraries, grocery and other stores in the area. Articles written by MCMS physicians about medical topics relevant to parents about childhood medical issues are included in each issue.
The committee works with the MC DHHS Obesity Prevention Strategy Committee on the issue of obesity among the county’s children. The group meets monthly. An obesity “toolkit” will be offered to MCMS members in 2008 to assist physicians when discussing obesity with their patients.
The committee was represented on the county committee that worked to make the six county hospitals and Frederick Memorial Hospital that became totally smoke-free on November 15, 2007.
The Speakers Bureau offers a venue for MCMS members to present medically related information within the MCPS system, eldercare facilities and other related venues when requested.
The Community Outreach committee will continue to work within the community as needed.
